Apprenticeships - What is involved?
- Attendance at the training centre on a regular basis, usually one to two days a month.
- You will work towards an apprenticeship framework which includes your QCF diploma/certificate, Key Skills, and Technical Certificate
- Qualifications that you have all ready gained may contribute towards some of the Apprenticeship components
- You will receive tuition to support the underpinning knowledge required for your framework.
- You will also have the opportunity to work towards additional qualifications relevant to your employment e.g. Appointed Person First Aid.
- You will receive regular monitoring and assessment in both the workplace and at the training centre.
- There are no formal examinations within the QCF; your work is assessed on an ongoing basis.
- Assessment of Key Skills will consist of gathering a portfolio of evidence and a test
Where are the training days held?
The Apprenticeship training days are held at baldwin training centre which is situated within a 10 minute walk of Eastbourne town centre and railway station.
How long will the Apprenticeship take?
We expect most Level 2 Apprentices to complete in 15 months and Apprentices on the Advanced level 3 programme to complete within 24 months.
What will it cost me?
Government funding will fund the full cost of the training towards the Apprenticeship if you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start.
If you are aged 19 to 24 at the start of your Programme, your employer will be expected to co-fund towards the cost of the training.
For all others the full course costing will apply.
What qualifications do I need to undertake the Apprenticeship?
There are generally no laid down minimum entry or previous experience requirements. Potential apprentices will undertake an initial assessment and be interviewed with their employer, to ensure they have the potential and opportunity to complete the apprenticeship framework, and other qualifications that are part of the Apprenticeship.
Examples of desirable skills and attributes in potential apprentices include.
- Motivation to succeed within the care sector.
- Good interpersonal skills, especially respect for service users and good verbal and physical communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake training and learning programmes and apply that learning in the workplace.
- A positive non-judgmental and open–minded attitude to those they are working with.
- Willingness to undergo a police check, for example if working with children and vulnerable adults.
