What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships have been introduced to meet the needs of both young people and business. They are a set of qualifications called a ‘framework’ developed by the Sector Skills Councils. As an employee you can earn as you learn and gain practical skills from the workplace.
Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to gain skills and nationally recognised qualifications sought by employers throughout industry.

Apprenticeship - Level 2
A level 2 (intermediate) apprenticeship consists of:
- Level 2 diploma/certificate in your chosen sector (competence based)
- Key Skills at level 1 or 2 depending on framework
- Level 2 knowledge based qualifications in chosen sector
- Employers’ rights and responsibilities
- Personal development and an opportunity to learn while you work and achieve a recognised qualification.
Apprenticeship - Level 3
A level 3 (advanced) apprenticeship consists of:
- Level 3 diploma in your chosen sector (competence based)
- Key Skills at level 2
- Level 3 knowledge based qualifications in chosen sector
- Employers’ rights and responsibilities
